WHAT DO ALL THOSE LITTLE LETTERS MEAN
Your Realtor® just handed you their business card and after the name is every letter you can think of from A-Z. What do all those little letters mean? In REALTOR® terms, those letters are called Designations.
GRI, ABR, e-PRO, and CRS are just a few. What do they really mean to you as the consumer? When considering purchasing a vehicle, why would you buy the cheap car when you can purchase a luxury model for the same price? Here is an explanation of what is involved in getting those agent Designations.
REALTORS® who hold the GRI (Graduate, REALTOR® Institute) designation have dedicated their time and money on real estate education to bring you quality service. The curriculum incorporates a common body of knowledge for progressive real estate professionals. A REALTOR® who possesses the GRI designation has not only completed a 90 hour course of study but also subscribes to the Code of Ethics of the Nationals Association of Realtors®. Almost 20 percent of REALTORS® have earned the Graduate REALTOR® Institute (GRI) designation as their career foundation.
The ABR (Accredited Buyer Representative) designation is for agents who wish to enhance their buyer representation skills and provides proof of prospective buyer-clients of their proficiency at servicing the needs of buyers. A Buyer’s Agent describes a real estate licensee (sales person/agent) who is employed by and represents only the buyer in a real estate transaction, not the seller. This relationship is created in writing. This contract should clearly state the service the agent will perform for the buyer as well as specify how the agent will be paid for services rendered. This type of real estate brokerage agreement should be used when the buyer needs guidance and representation when negotiating with sellers to purchase real estate.
All REALTOR e-PRO Internet Professionals are REALTORS® who have completed a rigorous certification program endorsed by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). Real estate agents and brokers who have earned REALTOR e-PRO® Certification are Internet professionals who have completed extensive training using the Web. The elite group of course graduates represents only 1% of all REALTORS® in the country. e-PRO® means the real estate professional is prepared to employ the latest internet techniques and services for your benefit.
The Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) is the highest Designation awarded to sales associates in the residential sales field. The CRS Designation recognizes professional accomplishments in both experience and education. Only 4% of all licensed REALTORS® have developed special residential sales skills and enhanced their residential sales knowledge through study, dedication and experiences.
These are just a few examples of the educational opportunities that are available to Real Estate agents. Course work takes time and money for a Realtor® but it’s done to give better representation to you, the consumer. The real estate market is constantly changing and some Realtors® are taking advantage of those educational opportunities that make them standout from the rest. So the next time you see those letters after your Realtors® name, ask them about them. They will be happy to tell you what they mean.
